What is more exicting then the first big weekend in cross country? Oh, I know. Having an opening weekend with four huge meets! This weekend will feature three meets with over thirty teams at each and another couple meets that nearly meet that mark as well. This is going to be a huge weekend in our sport and one that you cannot miss.
To pick just one meet as the biggest this weekend would just be too hard. You have four major invitationals that each bring a different something special to the table. The first of these starting in the north is the Great Meadow Invitational. This meet will be run on a compressed schedule due to weather but that is only going to speed up the finishers because this is where Andrew Hunter is making his debut. Whether he throws down a 14:50 or just cruises to a 16:00 is yet to be known but none the less it is very interesting. The next meet, also in the north, is the Monroe Parker Invitational which will be a 3 Mile race. This race will feature nearly every Northern Region teams and could very well be a preview of both the 6A and 5A girls state team title races. The next race working our way down south is the Fork Union Invtational which is also a 3 Mile race. This race will be great to watch because it features nearly every top runner and team that is a part of the VISAA. These meets and the next meet, the Newport New Invitational, will definitely show who is in shape and ready for the season and who has some work to do. The Newport News Invitational will likely be the largest meet by teams attended and will feature 2A powerhouse Maggie Walker.
