Girl's Varsity Race

Due to the extreme temperatures and humidity, the girls race was changed to a 4k. From the gun, Freshman Presley Warren of Evansville Memorial High School led the race accompanied by Sophomore Tara Cassidy of Jasper High School. Following passing the 2k mark, Warren kicked it into a new gear to separate her from Cassidy and the rest of the competition. Warren would finish the race in 15:29, with Cassidy at 15:38. Other top finishers were Natalie Graber of Barr-Reave High School, Hanah Welsh of Jasper High school, and Kentucky's #1 runner Brittney Hansen of Bowling Green High School. Hansen made up a lot of ground after the 2k to catch up to Graber and Welsh.

Potential Favorite  Madisyn Peeples of Bowling Green did not compete, as well as the entire Daviess County High School team.

Boy's Varsity Race

Unfortunately for the boys, they had to tough it out and run the original distance. Through the mile Seniors Bret Crawford of Grayson County High School and Kyle Johnson of Bowling Green led with a time of 5:10. Following  close behind were 2013 KY-IN Border Clash winner Brogan Armand of Evansville Harrison High School and Cale Kilian of Jasper High School. Through the two mile, Armand managed to pull ahead slightly with a time of 10:40. Johnson, Crawford, and Castle High School's Quentin Pierce were all still within striking distance. However, Crawford was the one to step up to the challenge. With about 1k left, Crawford had a 5 second gap on everyone, and wouldn't stop there. He extended his lead by an additional 6 seconds with a finishing time of 16:31. Pierce made up ground to claim runner up at16:42, and Armand edged out Johnson for 3rd with a lean. Both Armand and Johnson ran 16:47 low.

Following the race, Crawford told me that he was very satisfied with his time considering the conditions, and this being his first competitive cross country race since the Youth National Championships last November.
