LEXINGTON, Ky. – Twenty-four University of Kentucky student-athletes will be inducted into the Frank G. Ham Society of Character on Thursday at a ceremony to be held at UK’s Center for Academic and Tutorial Services.
Following the induction ceremony, the student-athletes will be introduced at Rupp Arena during the men’s basketball game vs. Arkansas.
The Society of Character annually honors Wildcats who have shown an extraordinary commitment to academic excellence, athletic participation, personal development, career preparation and serving as a role model. The SOC was founded during the 1998-99 school year and is named for Ham, a long-time UK administrator.
This year's induction class is listed below in alphabetical order.
Christa Cabot, Women’s Swimming/Diving
A junior diver from The Woodlands, Texas, Cabot has been an influential member of the UK swimming and diving team the past three seasons and is serving as team captain in 2013-14. She placed fourth at the 2013 NCAA Championships on the 3-meter event along with a top-five finish at the SEC Championships. Cabot is majoring in Psychology and has been named to the SEC Honor Roll twice and the UK Dean’s List twice. She has participated in numerous community service events.
Michelle Canterna, Women’s Track and Field
Canterna’s UK career has been a great example of the positive results that come from hard work and perseverance. Originally a long jumper, she transitioned to pole vaulting during her sophomore season and within a year of taking up the event, she broke the school record and qualified for the NCAA East Preliminary Championships. She has maintained a 3.94 GPA, in addition to having logged 133 community service hours while at UK. She was named a team captain for the 2014 season.
Ginny Carroll, Softball
Carroll is a senior outfielder for the softball team and is off to a great start this season. The native of Hendersonville, Tenn., has grabbed hold of the starting spot in leftfield and is providing UK with good production in the middle of the batting order. Carroll’s major is Kinesiology and Health Promotion and has been a leader by example for the softball team. She has been very active in the Lexington community and has worked countless softball camps to help develop young people around the area.
Lauren Cumbess, Softball
Cumbess is a senior pitcher/infielder and has contributed at a high level in the circle, at the plate and defensively over her four years. Entering the season, Cumbess ranked in the top 10 all-time in school history in home runs, slugging percentage, fielding percentage, putouts, earned-run average, opponent batting average and wins. The native of Normal, Ill., has a major in Integrated Strategic Communication and served as team captain the past two seasons.
Brad Doliner, Men’s Soccer
The native of Cape Elizabeth, Maine, earned second-team All-Conference USA honors as a senior. He totaled five goals and one assist in 18 games as a senior, with two game-winning goals. Majoring in Psychology, he was active in the community as well, making service visits to the Lexington Veteran's Hospital, the Special Olympics, local elementary schools, God's Pantry and as a volunteer soccer coach for the YMCA.
Greg Ferrucci, Men’s Swimming/Diving
Arguably the best diver in UK history, Ferrucci holds the school record in all three diving events and has placed at the NCAA Championships in each of the past two seasons. An All-America honoree, Ferrucci is a nine-time SEC Diver of the Week and an SEC finalist in each of his four years at UK. A Kinesiology and Health Promotion major, has been named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll in each of the past three seasons. He has volunteered for several community service activities.
Blake Freeman, Men’s Swimming/Diving
A walk-on senior from Palm Harbor, Fla., Freeman has been a valuable member of the Kentucky swimming and diving team with a commitment to excellence in the pool and in the classroom. A Biology major, he has a 3.659 GPA and has been named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll in each of the past three seasons along with the Dean’s List four semesters. He has volunteered at God’s Pantry, the Lexington Veteran’s Affairs Hospital and the Tri-For-Sight Triathlon.
Max Godby, Football
Originally a walk-on with the Kentucky football team, Godby’s perseverance and contributions to the team prompted Coach Mark Stoops to reward him with a scholarship. In the classroom, he is a two-year member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll. He has been a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee for UK and for the Southeastern Conference. He has participated in countless community service activities.
Jessi Greenberg, Volleyball
A defensive specialist from Melbourne, Fla., Greenberg tallied more than 575 digs during a four-year career on UK’s volleyball team. She was among 30 candidates for the Senior CLASS Award, is a four-time Academic All-SEC team member and was twice named to the SEC Community Service team. Greenberg appeared on the Dean’s list in every semester of college while also representing the volleyball team on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee during her junior and senior seasons.
Emily Holsopple, Rifle
On the rifle range, Holsopple has been a standout, leading Kentucky to its first national championship in 2011 and receiving All-America honors in each of her first three years on campus. She is majoring in Biology and has been honored by the SEC and the Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association for her academic performance. Her community service includes the UK trip to Ethiopia and volunteering for the Salvation Army, United Way and packing meals for Haiti earthquake relief efforts.
Luke Iannuzzi, Men’s Swimming/Diving
Iannuzzi has been an integral part of the UK swimming and diving team the past four years. A Biology major with a 3.87 GPA, he has excelled in the classroom and has been named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll three times, the Athletics Director’s Honor Roll and the Delta Epsilon Iota Honor Society. In the community, he has volunteered for numerous organizations, including The Refuge Clinic, Habitat for Humanity and D.A.R.E Camp for Kids.
Emily Jolly, Softball
Jolly is a senior outfielder and has had an impressive start to the 2014 season. A member of the All-Southeastern Conference Freshman Team in 2011, she made the move from infielder to outfield towards the middle of her career and it paid off. An in-state product from Owensboro, Ky., with a major in Hospitality Management and Tourism, she has been active in the Lexington community, working countless softball camps to help build up the game around the Bluegrass State.
Kayla King, Women’s Soccer
An adept goalkeeper, King is second in UK history in goals-against average with just over 1.00 per game. She was named team captain for her senior season, two-time Southeastern Conference Player of the Week and once a CollegeSoccerMadness National Player of the Week in 2012. King has also showed her prowess off the pitch, working tirelessly in community service while excelling in her major of agricultural biotechnology.
Cally Macumber, Women’s Track and Field
Macumber is a four-time All-American, two-time SEC Champion (2012 Cross Country, 2013 3,000 meters), three-time All-SEC selection and the school-record holder in three events. An integrated strategic communications major, Macumber is a four-year member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll in addition to having earned a spot on the UK Athletics Director’s Honor Roll for the fall 2013 semester. Macumber also has been involved with numerous community service activities.
Cody Martin, Men’s Golf
Martin has been a standout for the Wildcats by being named the team’s Most Improved Player in 2010, the team MVP in 2011 and two-time team captain. He currently ranks second on the team in stroke average. The Union, Ky., native is majoring in Marketing, is a three-time SEC Honor Roll member and has been named to the SEC Community Service Team on two occasions. Some of his community service projects include Cats Cultivating Character, God’s Pantry and the Consolidated Baptist Church.
Edmee Morin-Kougoucheff, Women’s Tennis
Morin-Kougoucheff currently sports a 4.0 GPA in Finance and is a mainstay of the UK singles and doubles tennis lineup. She earned a spot on the SEC All-Freshman team in 2012 and was named a team co-captain as a sophomore. During the past three seasons, she has won a majority of her singles matches. The French native has been named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll and the UK Athletics Director’s Honor Roll. She also has been a participant in several community service activities.
Abby Myers, Women’s Swimming/Diving
An exceptional leader with an incredible work ethic, Myers is having a breakout season, scored points in several races at the SEC Championships and is poised to make her first NCAA Championships appearance. From Cranberry Township, Pa., Myers has a 3.9 GPA and is majoring in Kinesiology and Health Promotion. She also was a U.S. Olympic Trials and U.S. Open qualifier. Her community service projects include the Special Olympics Swim Team and the International Book Project.
Julie Nunn, Women’s Track and Field
Nunn has had a strong UK career both on and off the track. She has competed at multiple SEC Championships, and has maintained a 3.665 GPA. Additionally, Nunn has completed 48 community service hours involving a variety of projects. She was named to the SEC Freshman Honor Roll, SEC Honor Roll 2011-13 and the Athletics Director’s Honor Roll for the fall 2013 semester.
Zack Peterson, Men’s Swimming/Diving
With a 3.75 GPA, Peterson is majoring in Kinesiology and has been named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll, the College of Education’s Dean’s List and received the Provost Scholarship four times. He was a USA Diving National Championships qualifier in 2012 and 2013 and has competed at the SEC Championships and the NCAA Zone Diving Qualifier each season. He has volunteered at the Maxwell Street Presbyterian Church, the UK Pre-Physical Therapy Student Association and Special Olympics.
John Sutton, Rifle
Sutton has been a member of the team’s two consecutive second-place finishes at the NCAA Championships and also competed in the Junior Olympic Trials Qualification. A member of the 2013 SEC Academic Honor Roll, Sutton owns a 3.59 GPA while majoring in Agricultural Biotechnology. He has spent many hours in community service, including Cats Cultivating Character, tutoring at local elementary schools, Special Olympics, God's Pantry and the SEC Football Food Drive.
Grace Trimble, Women’s Tennis
Trimble has a 3.945 GPA with a major in Political Science while earning a reputation as an extremely hard worker on the court. Trimble has been the team’s Student Athletic Council representative, K-Club representative and community service coordinator. She also was named to the SEC Community Service team. Trimble was a part of the UK Athletics trip to Ethiopia in the summer of 2013, providing assistance in house building, painting, working with children and many other capacities.
Jack Van Arsdale, Men’s Soccer
Van Arsdale, a goalkeeper, finished in the top 10 in Kentucky history in saves and goals-against average while posting five shutouts in his career. He was second-team All-Conference USA as a junior and team captain as a senior. A member of the 2013 C-USA All-Academic Team, he was also honored with the C-USA Commissioner's Academic Medal in 2011 and 2012, earning a spot on the Dean's List every semester of his collegiate career. A Kinesiology/Pre-Medicine major, he has a 3.889 career GPA.
Avery Williamson, Football
From his post at middle linebacker, Williamson made over 100 tackles each of the last two seasons, earning All-Southeastern Conference honors both years. Known for his leadership, he was named captain for every game of his senior season. He has been a member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll and plans to complete his degree in Integrated Strategic Communications in May. He has been involved in numerous service activities and was named to the SEC Community Service Team.
Kristen Wilson, Women’s Swimming/Diving
A senior from Lexington, Wilson has overcome injuries during her career and has been a valuable member of the team both in and out of the pool. Wilson is majoring in Finance and Marketing and has been named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll, Dean’s List and Athletics Director’s Honor Roll. Her community contributions include serving as a Salvation Army bell ringer, working with UK Fusion and Touch-a-Truck Child Development and the International Book Project.
